09.30 - 10.10        JonJon Healy & Andy Hayes
        Keysource - Data Centre Consultants

Jon Healy & Andy Hayes
Jon has worked for Keysource for over 4 years in a technical and commercial capacity. His educational background in engineering and experience within the data centre industry positions Jon to provide a consultative approach to best practice data centre design with particular focus on the use of efficient technologies within small to large data centre facilities. Jon has a wide range of project experience including greenfield builds, turn-key fit-outs, facility upgrades and relocation projects.

Andy has worked for Keysource for over 5 years in the capacity of Data Centre Consultant. His educational background is in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and prior to Keysource has worked on a number of multi million pound construction projects in London. During his time at Keysource he has worked on the technical design and commercial proposition of many data centre design and build projects ranging from small communication rooms to large multi megawatt facilities.

Keysource's presentation focuses on the use of PUE as an industry metric for measuring data centre efficiency, the Keysource philosophy behind efficient data centre design and examples of sites which have utilised this philosophy including Leicester University and Petroleum Geo Services

10.10 - 10.50         SimonSimon Pledger
        Unite Technologies
simon pledger

Commencing with third party maintenance engineering, Simon's career over the past 23 years has diversified significantly covering areas from systems backup architecture, through mass storage technology, to co designing the world's first Category 5 Cable tester (Microtest PentaScanner) but has never wandered from the wonders of IT. With such a diverse knowledge collected over time, Simon is able to provide educated and experienced assistance with the efficiency issues to be considered when running both new and existing Data Centres, and specifically how to achieve maximum energy savings, while maintaining critical uptime. During his time with Unite Technologies, Simon has developed solutions for, and worked with many Blue Chip corporate companies and assisted in achieving significant savings in power.  Just some of the reasons why several of those companies now contain multiple instances of Simon's work.

Simon will discuss Energy savings from retrofitable technologies.

11.10 - 11.30         TerryTerry Riches
        Line Management - Associate Director

Terry Riches has been evangelising about the merits of intelligently managed data since 2002, having been actively involved in the development of the Intelligent Infrastructure Management Solutions (IIMS) market. Terry joined LMG 3 years ago and is responsible for marketing their 2i brand of business and process efficiency solutions.

Terry will present a case that illustrates that there is even more to be gained from merely a lowering of your PUE… pulling the trigger prematurely on your next data centre space or livening up your next hall is a huge potential waste of resources if you don’t manage all of your capacity carefully and intelligently.

11.30 - 12.15           MikeMike Gilmore
Senior Partner -The Cabling Partnership    Managing Director of e-Ready Limited

Apart from his day job, Mike is the Technical and Standards Director of the Fibreoptic Industry Association and chairs audit and arbitration committees for the FIA. In 2007, he extended the role of the FIA by initiating the UK TIA-B (Telecommunications Infrastructure Advisory Board) to provide interpretation and advice relating to standards covering all cabling technologies.

In the more formal standardisation arena, Mike is Chairman of TCT/7, the BSI Technical Committee responsible for telecommunications cabling. One of the roles of TCT/7 is to support the work of CENELEC TC215.  TC215 is responsible for the development of an integrated series of standards for the design and installation of telecommunications cabling in a range of premises including offices, industrial, homes and data centres.

In 2008 he was appointed leader of an ETSI Specialist Task Force for energy efficiency in broadband deployment which resulted in the publication of the ETSI TS 105174 series documents - and in particular ETSI TS 105174-2-2 with specific focus on data centres.

More recently, a new Working Group of TC215 has been established to define facilities and infrastructures for data centres which takes a holistic attitude to data centre availability and energy efficiency enablement.  This is now directly supported in the UK via an experts panel within TCT/7.

In late 2009, Mike completed a report commissioned by the CENELEC Technical Board into future standardisation to support energy efficiency of data centres.  This report, due for consideration in April 2010, may set in place actions across all three major European Standards Organisations and will no doubt map onto a new EU Mandate on the subject of efficient energy use in fixed and mobile information and communication networks.

Mike will present : A review of the comparative, and  potentially coordinated, activities of the European Commission and the three major European standards bodies to apply objectives for energy efficiency of data centres, define solutions for achieve those objectives and to enable the measurement of those achievements.
